A neonatal nursing assistant has died at age 41, a local hospital said.
She was identified by her first name, Shana, who had worked as a neonatal assistant at the city’s South Boston Hospital.
A GoFundMe page for Shana has been set up.
It states that Shana had worked at South Boston from May of 2015 to February of 2016, and that she was a full-time nurse.
It did not give further details about her death.
South Boston Mayor Tom Breen said in a statement that he is shocked by the news of Shana’s death.
We are grieving the loss of this caring, talented young woman, Mayor Breen told WBZ-TV.
“She was an exceptional young lady and we have lost a very special person,” he said.
Shana graduated from South Boston with a bachelor’s degree in nursing in May of 2017.
She spent the next year as a full time nurse in a nursing home in the city.
Shana had a passion for teaching and helping others, and she worked as an aide at the South Boston Children’s Hospital for six years, Breen and the hospital said in the statement.
Shanas passion for caring and teaching led to her getting a full scholarship to go to college, he said, adding that she is very much missed by her friends and family.
“She was the best, and we will miss her,” Breen added.
“We will miss a wonderful person.”
A Go Fund Me page for a funeral has been established.
It has raised nearly $17,000 for Shona’s family.
