What we know about a controversial new governor, and why he is a no-show

A new governor in New Jersey, a Republican, is under fire for the lack of transparency he’s been accused of having in the healthcare rollout of the state.

The news came as the New Jersey Governor’s Office is being investigated by the State Auditor’s Office over claims that it failed to file a $2 million annual budget for fiscal year 2019.

In addition to the Auditor’s office, New Jersey has also launched an investigation into the Governor’s office after a whistleblower reported that a New Jersey State Police officer involved in the botched rollout of CareFirstCare Healthcare Services, which was supposed to provide health care to 1.5 million New Jerseyans, told a supervisor to lie to a state senator and then lied to a federal official in order to get the funds he needed to pay for the system.

The state’s Department of Human Services said in a statement on Thursday that the Inspector General has requested additional documents and interviews.
